Prescription Anti-Fungal Medication

Terconazole is a prescription-strength antifungal cream used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Terconazole helps to alleviate burning, itching and discharge that is associated with the infection.

Topical nystatin is an antifungal that is used for the treatment of cutaneous and mucocutaneous fungal infections caused by Candida albicans and other susceptible Candida species. 

Ciclopirox gel is used to treat certain fungal skin infections such as ringworm (tinea corporis) and athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) between the toes. These fungal infections can be contagious. This medication is also used to treat a scalp condition called seborrheic dermatitis. Ciclopirox is an antifungal medication that works by stopping the growth of fungus.

Selenium sulfide shampoo is a medicated shampoo primarily used to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It works by reducing the production of natural oils in the scalp and slowing the growth of yeast that can cause flaking and itching. This shampoo is also used to treat tinea versicolor, a fungal infection that causes discolored patches on the skin. Regular use of selenium sulfide shampoo helps to control scalp conditions, alleviate symptoms, and maintain a healthy scalp environment.

Nystatin/triamcinolone topical is used to treat fungal infections of the skin caused by Candida (yeast). The combination of an antifungal (nystatin) and a corticosteroid (triamcinolone) works to kill the yeast and alleviate symptoms of the infection such as skin itching, inflammation and redness.

Clotrimazole oral troches are used for the local treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis. Oropharyngeal candidiasis is a fungal infection in the mouth and throat caused by an overgrowth of the Candida fungus. They are also used to reduce the incidence of oropharyngeal candidiasis in immunocompromised patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or steroid therapy utilized in the treatment of leukemia, solid tumors, or renal transplantation. 

Ketoconazole shampoo is a prescription strength antifungal shampoo that controls flaking, scaling, and itching commonly associated with dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. It may also be used for the treatment of tinea versicolor (i.e. sun fungus) of the skin.

Betamethasone/Clotrimazole cream is used to treat fungal infections including jock itch (tinea cruris), athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), and ringworm (tinea corporis). This medication helps to relieve itching, swelling and redness, while treating and reducing spread of the infection.

Ketoconazole is an oral anti-fungal agent used to treat systemic fungal infections. 

Ketoconazole treats susceptible systemic fungal infections including blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and chromomycosis in patients who have failed or who are intolerant to other antifungal therapies. Ketoconazole tablets are not indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis, cutaneous dermatophyte infections, Candida infections or fungal meningitis. 

Topical ketoconazole is used to treat skin infections caused by fungus or yeast, working to inhibit fungal growth. Ketoconazole cream is used for treatment of tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea versicolor (“sun fungus”), cutaneous candidiasis (yeast infection of the skin), and seborrheic dermatitis.

Terbinafine is an oral anti-fungal agent used to treat onychomycosis, which is a fungal infection of the nails. Oral terbinafine has been demonstrated to be the most effective treatment for the mycological cure of toenail fungal infections. Terbinafine works by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, the enzyme in fungal cells that convert squalene to squalene epoxide. This results in an intracellular accumulation of squalene and results in fungal cell death. 

Ciclopirox nail lacquer is a topical antifungal treatment for mild to moderate onychomycosis (i.e. fungus of the fingernails and toenails) involving ≤50% of the nail.
