Ketoconazole shampoo is a prescription antifungal treatment designed to manage and relieve symptoms of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It works by targeting the yeast (Malassezia) that contributes to scalp flaking, scaling, and irritation. This shampoo is also used to treat superficial fungal infections like tinea versicolor, commonly known as “sun fungus,” which affects the skin and causes discolored patches.
The medicated formula is typically applied to the scalp or affected skin, left on for several minutes, and then rinsed. Improvement is often seen with consistent use every few days. It should not be used on broken or inflamed skin and is intended for external use only.
How To Use:
Wet affected area, apply shampoo, lather, and leave on for 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Use every 3 to 4 days for dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis or as prescribed. Continue use for the full recommended duration even if symptoms improve early.
Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Not for use on broken, swollen, or inflamed skin unless directed by a healthcare provider.
