Icosapent ethyl is a prescription medication derived from omega-3 fatty acids. It’s an isolated form of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid. This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, in adults with elevated triglyceride levels. It works by lowering triglyceride levels which in turn reduces inflammation and improves heart health. Icosapent ethyl has been shown to significantly lower triglycerides without raising LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol). The medication works by reducing the production of triglycerides in the liver and increasing their removal from the bloodstream. Icosapent ethyl is typically prescribed in conjunction with statins, as the combination can provide enhanced protection against cardiovascular risks.

Pravastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels while increasing the good cholesterol in the body. Pravastatin is well tolerated and dosed based off risk factors and cholesterol levels. 

Isosorbide mononitrate is a long-acting nitrate medication used to prevent angina (chest pain) in individuals with heart disease. It works by dilating blood vessels, improving oxygen delivery to the heart, and reducing its workload. Unlike quick-relief nitrates, isosorbide mononitrate is taken daily to help prevent angina episodes rather than treating them once they occur. This medication is commonly prescribed for patients with stable angina or coronary artery disease.

Gemfibrozil is prescribed to help reduce triglyceride levels and increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in the blood. It may also contribute to lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. As a member of the fibrate class of medications, gemfibrozil functions by reducing the amount of fat produced by the liver. In individuals with extremely high triglyceride levels, it may also reduce the risk of pancreatitis. It’s used to lower the risk of coronary heart disease in certain people.

Simvastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels while increasing the good cholesterol in the body.  Simvastatin is well tolerated and dosed based off of risk factors and cholesterol levels. 

Fenofibric acid capsules are a medication used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. As a fibrate, fenofibric acid works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which enhance the breakdown of fats and increase HDL (good cholesterol) levels. It is typically prescribed for patients with high triglycerides or mixed dyslipidemia and is often used alongside diet and lifestyle changes for optimal effectiveness.

Ezetimibe is a medication that helps lower cholesterol by preventing the absorption of cholesterol through the digestive tract into the body. Ezetimibe can be used alone or in combination with a statin. 

Fenofibrate is a medication that helps treat elevated triglyceride levels for individuals that have not succeeded with statin therapy and lifestyle modification alone. It is generally taken for at least 2 to 3 months and monitored for effectiveness to determine continuation of treatment. 

Rosuvastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels while increasing the good cholesterol in the body.  Rosuvastatin is well tolerated and dosed based off of risk factors and cholesterol levels. 

Atorvastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels while increasing the good cholesterol in the body.  Atorvastatin is well tolerated and dosed based off risk factors and cholesterol levels.
