Atorvastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels while increasing the good cholesterol in the body.  Atorvastatin is well tolerated and dosed based off risk factors and cholesterol levels. 

  • Used to reduce total cholesterol while raising good cholesterol in the body
  • Dosing is based on cholesterol levels, family history, or present risk factors in preventing a future event from occurring, such as heart attack and stroke
  • Dosing can range from 10 mg to 80 mg, and may be altered based on risk factors and tolerance
  • Individuals 65 years and older typically start at a lower dose to minimize side effects
  • Taken with or without food at any time of day
  • Must not take with grapefruit or grapefruit juice
  • Suitable for individuals already taking this medication
