Duloxetine is a selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat anxiety, low mood (depression), fibromyalgia, long term pain problems or neurological pain associated with diabetes. Initial effects may be observed within 2 weeks of treatment, with continued improvements through 4 to 6 weeks.
- Suitable in patients already taking this therapy under supervision of their medical doctor or provider
- Used to treat depression by increasing mood-enhancing chemicals serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain
- Used to treat anxiety by increasing mood-enhancing chemicals serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain
- For patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, duloxetine is considered an adjunctive therapy for patients with moderate to severe symptoms who have an inadequate response to nonpharmacologic interventions and oral NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or meloxicam

Duloxetine side effects may include nausea, constipation, sweating, headache, insomnia, fatigue, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, dizziness, weight loss, hypertension or orthostatic hypotension.
