Venlafaxine

Venlafaxine is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat anxiety. Treatment of anxiety can require trial of different SNRIs or SSRIs one at a time to find the best fit for you. Noticeable improvements in mood usually appear after 4 weeks of daily use with a recommended trial period of 4 to 12 weeks.

I agree that I:

am between the age of 18 to 65 years old
have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to venlafaxine or any component of the formulation
do not take a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, or selegiline currently or within the past 14 days
am not receiving linezolid, intravenous methylene blue, or pimozide
do not take other serotonergic drugs including other SSRIs (e.g. citalopram, escitalopram fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine), SNRIs (e.g. venlafaxine, duloxetine, desvenlafaxine), St. John’s Wort, or MDMA/”ecstasy”
do not take a blood thinner or antiplatelet including, warfarin, clopidogrel, Xarelto (rivaroxaban), Eliquis (apixaban), or heparin
do not have a history of liver (hepatic) or kidney (renal) impairment, cardiovascular disease, or seizure disorder
am not pregnant or breastfeeding
understand antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thought and behaviors in pediatric and young adults
understand abrupt discontinuation of this medication may cause withdrawal symptoms including physical (e.g. dizziness, chill, headache) and psychological (e.g. anxiety, irritability) symptoms.
have already been taking the initial dose (velafaxine 37.5 mg or preceding dose 75 mg) or have been previously prescribed a higher dose of venlafaxine if selecting venlafaxine 75 mg or 150 mg

Venlafaxine Medication Description
Venlafaxine is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder. By increasing levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, venlafaxine helps reduce excessive worry, restlessness, and physical symptoms of anxiety while improving mood and daily functioning.

Consistent use is important, as physical improvements such as better sleep and reduced tension may appear within 1–2 weeks, while full effects on mood and anxiety control typically take 4 weeks or longer. A recommended trial period of 4 to 12 weeks is often needed to determine effectiveness.

Usage Instructions
- Typically started at 37.5 mg to 75 mg once daily in the morning
- Dosage may be adjusted gradually based on response and tolerability
- Best taken with food to minimize stomach upset
- Do not stop suddenly; tapering is necessary to avoid withdrawal symptoms
Warnings & Precautions
- May cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, or increased sweating
- Can raise blood pressure at higher doses, so regular monitoring is recommended
- Should be used cautiously with other serotonergic medications due to risk of serotonin syndrome
- Avoid alcohol while taking venlafaxine
- Not recommended to discontinue abruptly, as withdrawal symptoms can occur
Venlafaxine Side Effects

Side effects may include nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, and loss of appetite.
