Vardenafil (Levitra®) is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. Vardenafil has a short half life compared to other PDE5 inhibitors (Viagra®, Cialis®).

Used to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis

Typical dosing is 10 mg to 20 mg as a single dose taken ~1 hour before sexual activity; maximum dose is 20 mg/day

Can be taken with or without food

May cause dizziness and low blood pressure when taken with alcohol

have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to vardenafil or any component of the formulation

have a diagnosis of erectile dysfunction and have already been taking vardenafil as prescribed by an authorized healthcare provider
Am taking vardenafil as prescribed for my own personal use

am not pregnant or breastfeeding
am not taking a medication with organic nitrates in them (either regularly and/or intermittently) such as nitrates, nitric oxide donors, or guanylate cyclase stimulators (e.g. nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, nitrate-containing recreational drugs, riociguat) nor intend to such medications with vardenafil due to risk for severe hypotension
am not taking nor intend to take riociguat with vardenafil due to risk for severe hypotension
understand that if nitrate administration is medically necessary, it is not known when nitrates can be safely administered following the use of vardenafil
do not have a history of moderate or severe liver impairment (hepatic, Child-Pugh Class B or C)
do not have a history of severe kidney (renal) impairment (Creatinine Clearance <30 ml/min) or end stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis
understand decreases in blood pressure may occur with vardenafil due to vasodilator effects
will seek emergency medical attention for an erection lasting more than 4 hours or if experiencing chest pain
do not have a bleeding disorder or cardiovascular diseases including hypotension, uncontrolled hypertension, unstable angina, angina during intercourse; life-threatening arrhythmias, stroke, or heart attack in the past 6 months; cardiac failure or coronary artery disease causing unstable angina; aortic stenosis or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or blood flow obstruction
do not have congenital or acquired (ie, medication induced) QT prolongation
do not have prior episodes or medical history of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
do not have a condition related to prolonged erection (e.g. sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia) or anatomical penis deformities (e.g., angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, or Peyronie disease)
do not have peptic ulcer disease
do not have fructose intolerance as some vardenafil products may contain sorbitol
understand some vardenafil products may contain phenylalanine
understand grapefruit juice consumption is to be avoided with vardenafil as it may result in increased vardenafil concentrations
understand to not eat a high-fat meal with vardenafil as vardenafil concentrations may decrease
understand vardenafil oral disintegrating tablets are not interchangeable with film-coated tablets and patients requiring a dose other than 10 mg should use the film-coated tablets
understand vardenafil may cause dose-related impairment of visual color discrimination (blue/green)
have already been taking the initial dose (vardenafil 2.5 mg) or have been previously prescribed vardenafil 5 mg, vardenafil 10 mg, or vardenafil 20 mg if selecting vardenafil 5 mg, vardenafil 10 mg, or vardenafil 20 mg
Will not take nor intend to take the following concurrently with vardenafil due to severe or major drug-drug interactions: alpha-1 blockers (eg, doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin, silodosin, tamsulosin) cobicistat, indinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, atazanavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, alprostadil, amyl nitrite, dapoxetine, fexinidazole, systemic fusidic acid, molsidomine, nitroprusside, sildenafil, tadalafil, riociguat, vericiguat

Vardenafil Side Effects

Vardenafil potential Side Effects: redness or flushing, low blood pressure, hearing loss, upset stomach, diarrhea, nasal congestion, back pain, and rarely an erection lasting longer than 4 hours. Vision changes may also occur such as light sensitivity and trouble distinguishing blue and green colors.
