Valsartan is in the class of medications referred to angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) and is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By preventing this constriction, valsartan helps relax and widen blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. This medication is also used to improve survival after a heart attack and reduce the risk of strokes and kidney damage in people with hypertension or diabetes.

Will use this medication for my own personal use and as indicated
Am currently taking this medication as prescribed by an authorized healthcare provider based on having a diagnosis of high blood pressure and/or heart failure
Have not had a hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction to valsartan or any component of the formulation (More information about formulation components can be found at www.drugs.com)
Am not taking aliskiren
Understand that valsartan has a boxed warning that indicates when pregnancy is detected to discontinue olmesartan as soon as possible due to risks to the fetus
Am not pregnant or breastfeeding
Do not have liver (hepatic) or kidney (renal) impairment
Understand to avoid salt substitutes which contain potassium
Do not have a history of angioedema, which is characterized by sudden swelling in areas under the skin and throat closure. I will discontinue this medication and seek medical attention immediately if these symptoms arise
Understand this medication may cause too low blood pressure (hypotension) and dizziness, which must be monitored, and dose adjusted as needed
Do not have a history of aortic/mitral stenosis
Do not have a history of ascites
Understand that monitoring parameters include blood pressure, serum electrolytes, and kidney function and attest that I am undergoing the required monitoring by a licensed healthcare provider
Do not have a history of hyperkalemia (high potassium)
Am not currently taking the following medications due to significant drug interactions: aliskiren, amifostine, ACE inhibitors, antihepaciviral combination products, belumosudil, bromperidol, bulevirtide, ceftobiprole. Leniolisib, isocarboxazid, lithium, obinutuzumab, trofinetide.
Understand there is a risk of renal function deterioration and that increases in serum creatinine may occur

Valsartan Medication Description
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to manage high blood pressure, heart failure, and certain post–heart attack conditions. By blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, valsartan helps relax and widen the vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving circulation.

This improved blood flow supports heart efficiency, lowers the risk of cardiovascular complications, and can help protect the kidneys in patients with diabetes and hypertension. Valsartan is also prescribed to improve survival after a heart attack and may be used off-label for chronic kidney disease management.

Usage Instructions
- Taken by mouth, typically once or twice daily as prescribed
- Can be taken with or without food
- Blood pressure should be monitored regularly to assess response
- May be combined with other medications for optimal blood pressure and heart failure control
Warnings & Precautions
- May increase potassium levels; consult a provider before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes
- Inform your provider if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or a history of heart problems
- Dizziness may occur when starting treatment, especially if also taking diuretics
Valsartan Side Effects

Valsartan side effects may include: dizziness, fatigue, headache, diarrhea, hypotension, hyperkalemia, cough, renal dysfunction, back pain, abdominal pain.
