Sumatriptan is used for the management of acute migraine headaches with or without aura. It should not be used for more than 10 days a month or for chronic headaches.

  • Used to alleviate migraine headaches with or without aura if vomiting or unable to swallow
  • Taken as a single dose in one nostril
  • May administer an additional dose after 2 hours without relief, but not to exceed 2 doses within 24 hours
  • Not suitable to use for more than 10 days per month
  • Not suitable for individuals at risk for coronary artery disease without prior evaluation by a provider or individuals 65 years and older
