Sumatriptan is used for the management of acute migraine headaches with or without aura. It should not be used for more than 10 days a month or for chronic headaches.
- Used to alleviate migraine headaches with or without aura
- Taken as soon as symptoms of migraine appear
- May repeat dose one time after 2 hours if no relief, with a maximum dose of 100 mg per dose and 200 mg in 24 hours
- Not suitable to use for more than 10 days per month
- Not suitable for individuals at risk for coronary artery disease without prior evaluation by a provider or individuals 65 years and older

Side Effects
Side effects may include flushing, loss of energy, congestion, and change in taste. Although rare, additional side effects include severe dizziness, vision changes, burning or numbness, and vomiting.
