am 18 years or older
have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to spironolactone or any component of the formulation
do not have a high potassium level (hyperkalemia), Addison’s disease, and am not taking eplerenone
am not taking a blood pressure medication in the classes angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) or angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI). Examples of these medications are losartan, valsartan, olmesartan, lisinopril, enalapril, and ramipril.
am not pregnant or breastfeeding
do not have heart failure or liver cirrhosis
do not have a history of liver (hepatic) or kidney (renal) impairment (CrCl<30 mL/minute)
understand this medication can increase potassium levels and may cause electrolyte and fluid imbalances
will discontinue the use of this medication if receiving adrenal vein catheterization
have already been taking the initial dose (spironolactone 25 mg) or preceding dose (spironolactone 50 mg) or have been previously prescribed the higher dose if selecting spironolactone 50 mg or 100 mg
