Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat low mood and depression. Treatment of depression can require trial of different SSRIs one at a time to find the best fit for you. Noticeable improvements in mood usually appear after 4 weeks of daily use with a recommended trial period of 4 to 12 weeks.
- Used to treat depression by enhancing the activity of serotonin in the brain
- Can also be used to treat low mood associated with monthly periods
- Initially dosed at 25 mg once daily for premenstruation and 50 mg once daily for depression
- Dosing may be increased to 100 mg based on response and tolerance
