Rabeprazole Tablets
Generic For Aciphex®
starting at $49.99

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce the production of stomach acid. It works by blocking the enzyme responsible for acid secretion in the stomach lining. This decrease in acid helps to relieve symptoms associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and other acid-related conditions. Lowering the acid levels not only alleviates discomfort like heartburn and regurgitation but also promotes the healing of the esophagus and stomach lining.

  • Rabeprazole is a medication that belongs to a group called proton pump inhibitors

  • Rabeprazole Tablets Medication Description

Rabeprazole tablets (AcipHex®) are a prescription medication in the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). They are commonly prescribed to reduce excess stomach acid and are FDA-approved for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), healing erosive esophagitis, and certain conditions that cause excessive acid production, such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. Rabeprazole works by blocking the proton pumps in the stomach that produce acid, helping relieve heartburn, promote healing of the esophagus, and prevent acid-related complications.

Rabeprazole tablets are generally prescribed when lifestyle modifications and over-the-counter acid reducers are not sufficient to control symptoms. Many patients experience symptom relief within several days, though complete healing may take longer.

    How to Use

    • Typically prescribed as one 20 mg tablet taken once daily.

    • Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and should not be split, chewed, or crushed.

    • For GERD, treatment is often prescribed for 4 to 8 weeks; some patients may require longer therapy if symptoms persist.

    • For Zollinger–Ellison syndrome or other chronic acid-related conditions, higher or more frequent dosing may be prescribed under medical supervision.

Take exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, even if symptoms improve before completing the course.

    Important Notes and Warnings

    • Rabeprazole is generally well tolerated, but common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, or abdominal pain.

    • Long-term use of PPIs has been associated with risks such as low magnesium levels, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and increased susceptibility to certain infections (such as Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea).

    • Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, especially blood thinners (warfarin), antifungal drugs, or HIV medications, as rabeprazole may interact with them.

    • Rabeprazole should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless directed by a healthcare provider.

    • Do not discontinue suddenly without medical guidance, as symptoms may return.

  • Rabeprazole Tablets Side Effects

Rabeprazole side effects may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, with some individuals also experiencing vomiting, constipation, or dry mouth. Additionally, some patients might notice dizziness, fatigue, bloating, or indigestion, while a few may report experiencing mild skin rash, itching, or even joint and muscle pain. Although these side effects are generally mild and temporary, it's important to consult your healthcare provider if you notice any severe or persistent symptoms, or if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling or difficulty breathing.
