Opvee® (nalmefene) is a nasal spray used for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose in adults and children ages 12 years and older. This is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Opvee® should be administered after initiation of CPR in a life-threatening emergency with a repeat dose as needed. Compared to naloxone, Opvee® (nalmefene) has a longer duration of action and a higher affinity for opioid receptors therefore fully reversing opioid doses.

Used to reverse the respiratory depression induced by opioids by binding to opioid receptors

Administer initial dose as soon as possible, do not prime or test device

Dose may be repeated every 2 to 5 minutes as needed for continued respiratory depression

If a repeat dose is needed, a new device must be used and nostrils should be alternated

Effects may be seen in 2.5 to 5 minutes

Am 18 years or older
Have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to nalmefene or any component of the formulation
Understand and am aware that nalmefene is not a substitute for emergency medical care
Am receiving nalmafene to prevent overdose death for either self- or buddy-administration for individuals at risk of opioid overdose
Understand and am aware nalmefene is to be used in the event of a known or suspected opioid overdose (ie, presence of respiratory and/or CNS depression) and emergency medical assistance should be provided as soon as possible after first dose
Understand this is not a substitute for emergency care
Understand and am aware that the patient whom the medication is administered to shall be kept under continued surveillance and administered repeated doses of nalmefene using a new nasal spray with each dose, as necessary, while awaiting medical assistance
Understand and am aware that there is a risk associated with postoperative reversal of opioid depression that may result in adverse cardiovascular effects. (If the effects of opioid medications, such as slowing down breathing and heart rate, are rapidly reversed after surgery, it might lead to a sudden change in cardiovascular function)
Understand and am aware that patients with abrupt postoperative reversal of opioid depression must be monitored closely in an appropriate healthcare setting after use of nalmefene
Understand and am aware that trying to counteract opioid withdrawal symptoms (which can be triggered by nalmefene) by taking large or repeated doses of opioids can be extremely dangerous and lead to opioid intoxication which is a potentially life threatening condition.
Understand and am aware that although this medication can be life saving, it can not be guaranteed due to the varied circumstances that could affect the efficacy for the patient or end user.
Understand and am aware that prolonged or recurrent respiratory depression may occur if the opioid involved is long-acting (e.g. methadone) even with an adequate initial response to nalmefene
Understand and am aware that reversal of partial opioid agonists (e.g. buprenorphine) may be incomplete and require larger or repeat doses of nalmafene

Opvee® (Nalmefene) side effects may include: opioid withdrawal syndrome in patients with opioid use disorder (e.g., abdominal pain, agitation, diarrhea, sweating, fever, nausea, hypertension or hypotension, and tachycardia) and nasal discomfort
