Chronic Conditions
Nebivolol
Generic For Bystolic®
starting at $24.99

Nebivolol is a beta-blocker primarily used to treat high blood pressure. It works by blocking beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, which helps to lower heart rate, reduce the force of heart contractions, and decrease blood pressure. Nebivolol also has vasodilatory properties due to its ability to increase nitric oxide release, leading to the relaxation of blood vessels. This dual action makes nebivolol effective in improving heart function and reducing cardiovascular risks.

  • Nebivolol is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may include diet, exercise, and other medications
  • Nebivolol should be taken when comorbidities (eg, ischemic heart disease or arrhythmia) exist
  • This medication should be gradually decreased over time before abruptly discontinuing therapy
  • Beta-blockers, like nebivolol, are not recommended as first-line therapy for high blood pressure
  • Maximum daily dose is up to 40 mg per day
  • Nebivolol may be particularly beneficial for patients with chronic kidney disease, as it can help reduce proteinuria and preserve kidney function
  • Some studies suggest that nebivolol may improve exercise tolerance in patients with heart conditions, unlike traditional beta-blockers that often limit physical activity
