Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic used to treat impetigo due to Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. It may also be used to treat secondary skin infections (e.g., localized infection of wounds, burns, dermatitis).

Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic ointment used to treat impetigo and secondary skin infections that works by killing bacteria and preventing bacterial growth on the skin.

Applied topically to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day for 5 days (impetigo) or 7-14 days (secondary skin infections)

May be covered with a sterile gauze dressing or bandage but do not wrap with an airtight bandage

Have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to mupirocin or any component of the formulation
Am using this as indicated for treatment of impetigo or secondary skin infections
Will use this product for external use only, avoiding eyes, mouth, vaginal and rectal use
Will discontinue use if sensitization or local skin irritation occurs
Will use for the appropriate duration of therapy and understand that prolonged use should be avoided as it may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection, including C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD)
Understand that although mupirocin is unlikely to, it may rarely cause systemic effects (e.g., dizziness, fast or abnormal heartbeat, C. diff-associated diarrhea, stomach pains or bloody stools)
