Levalbuterol HFA inhaler (Xopenex) is a bronchodilator used to treat or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway diseases, such as asthma. It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways, allowing for easier breathing during asthma attacks or in cases of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Xopenex is typically used on an as-needed basis for rapid relief of symptoms.

Xopenex HFA contains levalbuterol, the R-enantiomer of albuterol, which is considered to have fewer side effects

It is primarily used to treat bronchospasm in people with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Levalbuterol begins working within minutes, providing fast relief from asthma symptoms

Have a diagnosis of asthma or exercise-induced asthma
understand this medication may exacerbate symptoms in patients associated with the following conditions of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, hypokalemia, and seizure disorder
will not exceed the recommended dose for intermittent symptoms relief unless recommended by a licensed healthcare provider
am not pregnant or breastfeeding
Do not have kidney or liver impairment
understand this medication may cause increase the risk of increased heart rate, arrhythmia, and cardiomyopathy, and other cardiovascular effects
understand this medication may affect the nervous system causing increased excitement, nervousness, tremor, anxiety, and insomnia
Understand that I must seek medical attention in cases where acute symptoms are not relieved or a previous level of response is diminished. The need to increase frequency of use may indicate deterioration of asthma.
Understand that levalbuterol can cause QT prolongation that could lead to cardiac arrhythmias (more information on drug interactions can be found at: https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html)
Am not taking the following medications: beta blockers, linezolid, or loxapine
