Latanoprost is in the class of medications called prostaglandin analogs and is commonly prescribed to treat open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Latanoprost works to reduce pressure in the eyes by improving the drainage of the aqueous humor (i.e. fluid inside the eyes) and therefore preventing damage to the optic nerve and preserving vision.

Latanoprost is used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension by lowering intraocular pressure

Latanoprost may sustain temperatures of up to 104°F for up to 8 days during shipment, then should be stored in the refrigerator until opened. Once opened, latanoprost may be stored at room temperature for up to 6 weeks (42 days)

Dosed as 1 drop into affected eye(s) once a day at bedtime

Contacts should be removed prior to administration of latanoprost. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contacts

Am 18 years or older
Have not had a hypersensitivity to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride, or any component of the formulation (More information about formulation components can be found at www.drugs.com)
Am not pregnant and understand that use of latanoprost during pregnancy may increase the risk of miscarriage and premature labor
Have been previously and/or currently prescribed this medication for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Do not have a history of herpes simplex keratitis
Do not have a history of ocular disease (e.g., aphakic or pseudophakic glaucoma) or have risk factors for macular edema
Understand that safety and efficacy have not been established in patients with angle-closure, inflammatory or neovascular glaucoma
Will follow up with my ophthalmologist for regular eye exams every 3 to 12 months as directed by my healthcare provider depending on my initial diagnosis and disease progression
Am not currently taking any other ophthalmic prostaglandins (e.g., bimatoprost, travoprost, tafluprost)

Latanoprost Side Effects

Latanoprost side effects may include: eye irritation (e.g., burning, stinging or itching), eye redness, dry eye, temporary blurred vision, darkening of the iris and/or skin around the eyes, and increased eyelash growth.
