Ketoconazole is an oral anti-fungal agent used to treat systemic fungal infections.
Ketoconazole treats susceptible systemic fungal infections including blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and chromomycosis in patients who have failed or who are intolerant to other antifungal therapies. Ketoconazole tablets are not indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis, cutaneous dermatophyte infections, Candida infections or fungal meningitis.
- Suitable in patients already taking this therapy under supervision of their medical doctor or provider
- Ketoconazole tablets should only be used when other effective antifungal therapy is not available or tolerated and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks
- Typical dosing is 200 mg by mouth daily until active fungal infection is resolved; may increase to 400 mg once daily if response is insufficient
- To be taken at least 2 hours before any antacids

Ketoconazole is an oral antifungal medication indicated for the treatment of certain systemic fungal infections in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to other antifungal therapies. Ketoconazole acts by interfering with fungal cell membrane formation, helping to stop infection spread and inhibit fungal growth.
Ketoconazole is effective against specific fungal conditions including blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and chromomycosis. It is not approved for common fungal conditions such as Candida infections, onychomycosis (nail fungus), cutaneous dermatophyte infections, or fungal meningitis.
How To Use: Tablets should be taken at least 2 hours before taking antacids or other medications that alter stomach pH to ensure proper absorption.
Precautions: Liver function should be monitored before and during treatment. Do not use in combination with certain medications (including but not limited to: dofetilide, quinidine, pimozide, cisapride) due to risk of life-threatening arrhythmias. Always use under supervision of a healthcare provider.
