Januvia (sitagliptin) is an oral medication used to help manage type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called DPP-4 inhibitors, which work by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in the body. These hormones help control blood sugar by stimulating the release of insulin after meals and reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Januvia is typically used alongside diet and exercise and may be combined with other diabetes medications when needed. It does not usually cause weight gain and has a low risk of causing low blood sugar when used alone.
