am not pregnant or breastfeeding; taking irbesartan while pregnant may cause injury or death to the fetus
have a diagnosis of high blood pressure and have already been taking irbesartan as prescribed by an authorized healthcare provider
understand this medication may cause too low blood pressure and dizziness, which must be monitored, and dose adjusted as needed
am not concomitantly taking aliskiren with a diagnosis of diabetes
do not have kidney (renal) impairment
understand this medication may cause angioedema, which is characterized by sudden swelling in areas under the skin and throat closure. I will discontinue this medication and seek medical attention immediately.

Medication Description

Irbesartan is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) by blocking the angiotensin II receptor, which helps relax blood vessels and improve blood flow. As an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), irbesartan lowers blood pressure and has a lower risk of causing the persistent dry cough often associated with ACE inhibitors like lisinopril, making it a favorable alternative for certain patients.

This medication can be used on its own or in combination with other antihypertensives for more effective blood pressure control. The typical starting dose is 75 mg taken once daily, but your healthcare provider may adjust the dose based on your response and overall treatment goals.

Side Effects

Side effects may include dizziness, diarrhea, itchiness, and high potassium levels. Avoid excessive consumption of potassium containing foods, potassium supplements, and salt substitutes with potassium.
