Glipizide ER (extended-release) is an oral medication prescribed to manage Type 2 diabetes. It helps lower blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin release from the pancreas. Often used as an add-on treatment alongside other diabetes therapies, Glipizide ER may also be used on its own if alternative medications are not tolerated. It’s most effective when paired with healthy lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise.
Glipizide ER is typically taken once daily with the first meal of the day. The starting dose is typically between 2.5 mg and 5 mg, with a usual maintenance dose of 5 mg to 10 mg daily. It is not recommended for individuals over 65 or those with a known sulfonylurea (sulfa) allergy, due to a heightened risk of low blood sugar.
How To Use:
Extended-release form of glipizide for once-daily dosing
Usually taken with breakfast
Not suitable for those with sulfa allergies
Should be combined with diet and exercise
