Glipizide is a medication used to help lower blood sugar for Type 2 diabetes. It is typically used as an add-on agent with other medications for diabetes, in addition to lifestyle intervention of diet and exercise. 

  • Used as an add-on treatment to lower blood sugar for patients with Type 2 diabetes
  • Can also be used as a single therapy for diabetes if other medications are not tolerated
  • Initial dosing 2.5 mg to 5 mg with the first meal of the day
  • Typical maintenance dose of 5 mg daily
  • Not suitable with a known allergy to sulfur containing medications or patients 65 years and older
