Finasteride is used to treat the signs of an enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It must be taken continuously for at least 6 months to show effect, and 12 months to assess the effectiveness of the medication. Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant must not touch or handle this medication as it can lead to fetal abnormalities.
