Famotidine is used to treat symptoms of acid reflux including heartburn, indigestion, and sour stomach. It is typically taken once to twice daily scheduled or on an as needed basis.  

  • Used to treat acid reflux symptoms including heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach
  • Typical dosing for recurring acid reflux is 20 mg once daily 10 to 60 minutes before an acid inducing meal
  • Maximum dose of 40 mg once daily
  • If symptoms persist after 2 to 4 weeks of therapy, consider switching to omeprazole
  • May also be used in combination with omeprazole once daily as needed or on schedule
  • In individuals with poor kidney function, famotidine should be taken every other day at the lowest dose
