Ergocalciferol is a prescription vitamin that is used to prevent or treat Vitamin D deficiency. Ergocalciferol is in a class of medications called Vitamin D analogs and works by helping the body to use more calcium from food or supplements. Ergocalciferol will only work if you also get the right amount of calcium. It’s important to maintain the right amount of calcium intake to ensure the effectiveness of ergocalciferol. Ergocalciferol is the inactivated version of Vitamin D and is referred to as Vitamin D2.

Am 18 years or older
I attest that I will be using this medication as prescribed and for my own personal use
Have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to ergocalciferol or any component of the formulation
Have never been diagnosed and do not have malabsorption syndrome
Currently and have never had an abnormal sensitivity to toxic effects of vitamin D
Have never been diagnosed with and currently do not have signs and symptoms of hypervitaminosis D
Am aware and acknowledge that I am being monitored by a primary care provider for vitamin d levels
Am aware and understand the risk of vitamin d toxicity and that the effects of vitamin d can last over 2 months after therapy is discontinued
Have never had a diagnosis of hypercalcemia and have had lab work within the past 6 months confirming calcium levels are within normal range
Have previously been prescribed this medication being taken at weekly intervals and have had lab work within the past 6 months monitoring vitamin d levels
Am not pregnant or breastfeeding
Do not have a history of renal (kidney) impairment
Do not have a history of liver disease and/or do not have a history of altered liver function
Understand and am aware that calcium supplements may enhance adverse effect of Vitamin D
Will discontinue use at first sign of skin rash, irritation or hypersensitivity
Will not take with other vitamin d supplements
Am being routinely monitored by a primary care provider for routine lab work

Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2) is a prescription vitamin used to prevent or treat Vitamin D deficiency, particularly in individuals who may not get enough from sunlight or diet. It belongs to a class of medications known as Vitamin D analogs, which help the body utilize calcium more effectively. Unlike over-the-counter Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), ergocalciferol is the plant-derived, inactivated form of Vitamin D.

Ergocalciferol increases calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations, supporting normal bone mineralization and overall health. For the medication to be effective, it is important to maintain sufficient calcium intake through diet or supplementation.

How to Use:

Typically dosed as one capsule weekly, or as prescribed by a healthcare provider

May be taken with or without food

Ensure consistent calcium intake while using this medication

Warnings:

Vitamin D effects can persist for over 2 months after stopping therapy

Over-supplementation can lead to hypercalcemia (high calcium levels)

Serum levels should be monitored, with many experts recommending a target range between 20–40 ng/mL
Ergocalciferol Side Effects

Ergocalciferol side effects may include the following: nausea and vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness and fatigue, headache, metallic taste.
