  • Medication Description

Cyclosporine ophthalmic solution is a prescription medication used to manage chronic dry eye disease by increasing the production of natural tears. It works by reducing inflammation in the tear-producing glands of the eyes, helping restore tear production in individuals whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation.

This medication is typically instilled into each eye twice a day, about 12 hours apart. While some patients may begin to see improvements in symptoms after 1 month of consistent use, it may take 3 to 6 months for noticeable improvement in tear production.

Cyclosporine is not a lubricant drop and must be used exactly as prescribed to be effective.
