  • Medication Description

    Cyanocobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 used to treat or prevent B12 deficiency, which can result from dietary limitations, certain types of anemia, pregnancy, gastrointestinal disorders, or other medical conditions. Vitamin B12 is essential for healthy nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.

    This prescription-strength B12 injection is typically used as a maintenance therapy and is often dosed at 1 mL once a month. It is injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously (deep under the skin), depending on the provider’s instructions and patient preference.

    Self-administration is common and can be done into the upper, outer thigh. If someone else is giving the injection, it may also be administered into the deltoid muscle (upper arm) or the gluteal muscle.
