Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme COX-2, which plays a key role in the production of prostaglandins that cause inflammation and pain. Celecoxib is preferred over some other NSAIDs due to its lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects such as ulcers and bleeding.

Celecoxib is used for pain and inflammation associated with arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis), painful menstruation and migraines

Typically taken as 1 capsule up to twice daily

Maximum daily dose is up to 400mg per day

Take with food or milk to minimize stomach upset

Celecoxib is used off-label for the treatment of acute gout flare ups

Am taking this medication for my own personal use
Have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to celecoxib, sulfonamides, aspirin, other NSAIDs or any component of the formulation (More information about formulation components can be found at www.drugs.com)
Have previously taken this medication or am currently taking this medication
Understand that all NSAID drugs (including celecoxib) may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke, and that the risk is greater if you have heart disease or with longer use or early in treatment
Am not using celecoxib during the perioperative setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Understand NSAIDS (including celecoxib) cause an increased risk of serious GI adverse events including bleeding, ulceration and perforation of the stomach or intestines.
Understand that elderly patient and patients with a prior history of peptic ulcer disease and/or GI bleeding are at a higher risk of serious GI events
Will discontinue use if I experience recurring stomach pain, bleeding or bruising, or any other serious medical problems while taking this medication
Understand and am aware celecoxib has a boxed warning for increased risk of serious GI adverse events including ulcers, bleeding or fatal damage to the stomach or intestines. These events could occur at any time and without warning symptoms.
Understand adults 65 years and older are at high risk for side effects such as asymptomatic peptic ulcer and/or hemorrhage, compromised kidney function, confusion, agitation and hallucination. The lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest period possible.
Do not have liver (hepatic) or kidney (renal) impairment
Understand and am aware celecoxib has a boxed warning for increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, increasing risk for heart attack (myocardial infarction) and stroke. I understand this risk may occur early in treatment and increases with duration of use.
Do not have a history of asthma, hives or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib, meloxicam, indomethacin)
Do not have a history of aspirin-sensitive asthma
Do not have a history of bariatric surgery
Am not pregnant or breastfeeding
Do not have a history of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Am not taking aminolevulinic acid, ketorolac, lithium, macimorelin, mecamylamine, methotrexate, mifamurtide, other NSAIDs, phenylbutazone, or tenoxicam
Am not taking any blood thinners (e.g., warfarin, Xarelto, Eliquis, dabigatran, enoxaparin)
Understand this medication may interact with medications being metabolized similarly, including lithium, warfarin, methotrexate, phenytoin, SSRIs, and blood pressure medications (e.g., furosemide, losartan, torsemide) so concomitant use should be avoided
