Medication Description
Benzonatate is a non-opioid oral cough suppressant used to provide short-term relief of dry, persistent cough caused by conditions such as the common cold, influenza, or acute respiratory infections. It works by numbing the stretch receptors in the lungs and airway, thereby reducing the urge to cough. Typically provides relief within 15 to 20 minutes of ingestion.
How to Use:
Typical dose: often taken up to 3 times daily as needed under the directions of a provider
Do not break, chew, crush, or dissolve — doing so can cause numbness of the mouth, choking, or serious side effects
Important: Keep out of reach of children. Accidental ingestion can be fatal, especially in children under 10 years of age.
