Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, and to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems. It works by inhibiting the production of angiotensin II, a chemical that causes blood vessels to tighten, leading to relaxation and widening of the blood vessels. This effect helps to lower blood pressure, improve blood flow, and decrease the strain on the heart. Ramipril is also used to protect kidney function in people with diabetes or other conditions causing kidney damage.

Ramipril is used to help lower blood pressure, treatment of heart failure and reduction in the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death from cardiovascular causes

Ramipril has been shown to reduce arterial stiffness, which is a contributor to high blood pressure and cardiovascular strain

Ramipril is often combined with other medications for enhanced blood pressure control

Dosing is often titrated to the target dose

Am 18 years or older
Have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to ramipril, or any other medication within the same class (ACE inhibitors e.g. lisinopril, enalapril, benazepril), or any component of the formulation (More information about formulation components can be found at www.drugs.com)
Am not pregnant or breastfeeding
Understand that use of ramipril during pregnancy can cause injury and death to the developing fetus and should be discontinued as soon as possible
Have already been taking ramipril as prescribed by an authorized healthcare provider
Do not have significant kidney impairment with an eGFR below 30ml/minute/1.73 m2
Am not on dialysis
Do not have liver impairment
Do not have a history of hereditary/idiopathic angioedema or angioedema related to previous treatment with an ACE inhibitor
Do not have a history of the following: aortic stenosis, ascites, or collagen vascular disease
Have not used a neprilysin inhibitor (eg, sacubitril) within 36 hours
Am not currently taking aliskiren
Understand that anemia and hypotension are significant adverse effects
understand this medication may cause acute kidney injury, angioedema, drug-induced cough, and high potassium levels
