Pioglitazone is a medication used to help lower blood sugar in patients with Type 2 diabetes.

Used as an add-on treatment to lower blood sugar for patients with Type 2 diabetes

Can also be used as a single therapy for diabetes if other medications are not tolerated

Initial dosing is 15 mg once daily and may be increased every 4 to 12 weeks as needed to reach blood sugar goals

Maximum dose is 45 mg daily

Can be taken with or without food

Not suitable for individuals with heart failure

I agree that I:

am 18 years or older
have not had a hypersensitivity reaction to pioglitazone or any component of the formulation
have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and have already been taking pioglitazone as prescribed by an authorized healthcare provider
do not have congestive heart failure, including heart failure in classes NYHA class III or IV
do not have liver cirrhosis or other history of liver (hepatic) impairment
do not have a history kidney (renal) impairment
do not have Type 1 diabetes mellitus
understand this medication may interact with medications being metabolized similarly or share similar side effects, including beta blockers, other diabetes medications, thiazide diuretics and topiramate
understand the risk of low blood sugar and dizziness
have not had bariatric surgery
am not pregnant or breastfeeding
understand this medication may increase the risk of bladder cancer, bone fracture, heart failure, and liver injury
