Sitagliptin is an oral diabetes medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by blocking the DPP-4 enzyme, which increases levels of incretin hormones in the body. These hormones help stimulate insulin release when blood sugar levels are elevated and reduce the amount of glucose produced by the liver. Sitagliptin is usually taken once daily with or without food and may be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications.
