Zolmitriptan is an antimigraine agent and belongs to a class of medications known as “triptans”. Zolmitriptan works on serotonin receptors and is intended to relieve the symptoms of an active migraine rather than prevention. When compared to other triptans (sumatriptan and rizatriptan), zolmitriptan has fewer risks of side effects and less known significant drug interactions.
- Zolmitriptan is used for the acute treatment of moderate to severe migraines with or without aura in adults
- Zolmitriptan is not intended to be used for prevention of migraines
- Zolmitrpitan is not intended to be used for the treatment of cluster headaches
- Only appropriate if a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established

Zolmitriptan side effects may include the following: Unpleasant taste, chest pain, chest pressure, facial edema, palpitations, dizziness, drowsiness, diaphoresis and nausea.
