Rizatriptan is a prescription medication used to treat acute migraine attacks with or without aura. It belongs to a class of drugs called triptans, which work by narrowing widened blood vessels in the brain and blocking pain pathways, helping relieve migraine symptoms such as headache, light sensitivity, and nausea. Rizatriptan is intended for use at the first sign of a migraine and is not for the prevention of migraine attacks.
When taken promptly, rizatriptan can help shorten the duration of migraine pain and improve the ability to resume normal activities.
Usage Instructions:
Typically taken as a single dose at the first sign of migraine onset or pain
If symptoms return or do not fully resolve, a second dose may be taken after at least 2 hours
It's not recommended to exceed 20 mg in a 24-hour period
May be taken with or without food
Not intended for use on more than 10 days per month to avoid medication overuse headaches
Warnings & Precautions:
Not suitable for individuals with a history or high risk of coronary artery disease unless evaluated by a healthcare provider
Do not use if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain heart rhythm disorders, or a history of stroke
May cause side effects such as fatigue, dizziness, tingling, flushing, or drowsiness
Rare but serious side effects include severe dizziness, vision changes, burning or numbness, or vomiting; seek medical attention if these occur
Avoid taking other triptans or ergotamine-containing medications within 24 hours of rizatriptan use
