Celecoxib is a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, swelling, and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, painful menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), and migraines.
It works by selectively inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme, which plays a key role in producing prostaglandins—substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Because celecoxib specifically targets COX-2, it offers effective relief with a lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects such as ulcers and bleeding, compared to non-selective NSAIDs.
How To Use
Typically taken as 1 capsule once or twice daily
Maximum dose is recommended to be 400 mg per day
Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset
Additional Information:
Celecoxib may be used off-label to help manage acute gout flare-ups
It is not a cure for arthritis, but helps manage the symptoms and improve daily function
Long-term NSAID use should be monitored by a healthcare provider to assess cardiovascular, renal, and gastrointestinal risks.
