Methylprednisolone is an oral corticosteroid typically prescribed to treat inflammation, allergic reactions, or autoimmune flare-ups. It works by suppressing the immune system to reduce symptoms such as swelling, redness, itching, and irritation. It is commonly used for conditions like asthma, seasonal allergies, arthritis, lupus, gout, and skin rashes.
This steroid is often administered as a short-term "dose pack" with a decreasing dose each day over a 6-day period. This tapering helps reduce the risk of withdrawal and allows the body to adjust gradually to lower steroid levels.
How To Use:
Standard course begins with 6 tablets on day 1, decreasing by 1 tablet each day for 6 days, following your providers exact directions. Tablets should be taken with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Relief may begin within hours of the first dose, with noticeable improvement in inflammation or allergy symptoms typically within 24–48 hours.
Warnings:
May cause stomach upset, insomnia, or mood changes. Should not be stopped abruptly if used long-term. Use is cautioned in individuals who are immunocompromised.
