Clobetasol is a super-high potency topical corticosteroid used to treat corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions, including plaque psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin disorders. It works by suppressing the release of inflammatory substances in the skin, helping to reduce redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort. Because of its high potency, clobetasol is generally reserved for more severe or treatment-resistant skin conditions when lower-potency corticosteroids have not provided adequate relief.
Clobetasol should be applied only to the affected areas exactly as prescribed and for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. It should not be used on the face, groin, or underarms unless specifically directed by a healthcare provider, and prolonged or excessive use may increase the risk of systemic corticosteroid absorption and other adverse effects. Patients should avoid covering treated areas with bandages or occlusive dressings unless instructed to do so. Regular follow-up with a healthcare provider may be recommended if extended treatment is needed.
