Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as traveler’s diarrhea and urinary tract infection (UTI).
- May be used to treat bacterial infections such as traveler’s diarrhea and urinary tract infections (UTI)
- Dosed as 500 mg by mouth twice a day for 3 days (traveler’s diarrhea) or 7 days (UTI)
- May take with food to minimize stomach upset
- Avoid taking with dairy products (e.g., milk, yogurt) alone or with antacids. Separate ciprofloxacin by at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids or products containing calcium, iron, or zinc.

Side Effects
Side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Severe side effects may include tendon rupture, depression or suicidal thoughts, and abnormal heartbeat.
