Atovaquone and proguanil is a prescription antimalarial medication commonly prescribed for the prevention of malaria in individuals traveling to malaria-endemic regions. This medication combines two active ingredients that work synergistically to interfere with distinct pathways in malaria parasites, helping reduce the risk of infection.
How to Use:
As directed by your healthcare provider, this medication is generally started 1 to 2 days before entering a malaria-endemic area, taken once daily during travel, and continued for 7 days after returning. For best results, take the tablet at the same time each day with food or a milk-based drink.
Important: To improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal side effects, take each dose with food or a milk-based drink.
If flu-like symptoms or fever occur during or after travel, prompt medical evaluation is recommended, even if the full course has been completed.
Use alongside mosquito bite prevention measures (repellents, nets, long sleeves)
