Lansoprazole orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) are a prescription medication in the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) designed to reduce excess stomach acid. They are used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole ODT offers siilar clinical efficacy as capsule formulations but dissolves directly in the mouth —making it a preferred option for individuals who have difficulty swallowing pills or prefer this dosage form.
The medication works by inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺ ATPase enzyme in the stomach lining, reducing acid secretion at the source. This decrease in acidity helps to alleviate symptoms like heartburn and indigestion while supporting the healing of acid-damaged tissues in the esophagus and stomach.
How To Use: Under the direction of your provider, this medication is typically taken once daily before a meal. Allow tablet to dissolve fully on the tongue. Relief may begin within 1–2 days, with full therapeutic effect in several days.
Warnings: Long-term use may increase the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and C. difficile infections. Use under medical supervision.
