Junel is a combined oral contraceptive of estrogen and progesterone that is used to prevent pregnancy. Pills are contained in a monthly blister card of 3 weeks of active pills and 1 week of placebo pills.

- Norethindrone has lower progesterone activity than other progestins
- Can be started at any time within the menstrual cycle with 7 days of back up method if sexually active
- Must be taken at the same time each day
- Not suitable for women over the age of 35 years old and smoke

Side Effects
Side effects may include spotting between cycles, weight gain or loss, tender breasts, headache, upset stomach, gas, and bloating. Serious side effects are rare and require immediate medical attention including liver and gallbladder problems, depression, and blood clots.
