Mupirocin is a prescription topical antibacterial medication used for certain skin infections, including impetigo and secondary skin infections on minor wounds or abrasions. It is available as a 2% topical ointment or cream. Mupirocin works by stopping bacteria from making proteins they need to grow and survive.
How to Use:
Apply a small amount to the affected area as directed, often three times daily for 7 to 10 days. Clean and dry the area first, then apply a thin layer using clean hands, gauze, or a cotton swab. The treated area may be covered with gauze if directed.
Warnings & Precautions:
Mupirocin is for external use only unless your provider gives different instructions. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and large untreated areas. Contact a provider if irritation becomes severe, symptoms spread, or there is no improvement within a few days. Avoid layering other topical products on the same area unless directed.
