Glipizide is a medication used to help lower blood sugar for Type 2 diabetes. It is typically used as an add-on agent with other medications for diabetes, in addition to lifestyle intervention of diet and exercise.
- Used as an add-on treatment to lower blood sugar for patients with Type 2 diabetes
- Can also be used as a single therapy for diabetes if other medications are not tolerated
- Initial dosing is typically 5 mg 30 minutes before the first meal of the day
- Typical maintenance dose of 5 mg to 10 mg daily
- Not suitable with a known allergy to sulfur containing medications or patients 65 years and older
- Suitable for individuals already taking this medication

Side effects may include dizziness and lightheadedness due to low blood suagr. Other side effects may include diarrhea, gas, weight gain, or nervousness.
