Albuterol is a prescription rescue inhaler commonly used to relieve acute asthma symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness. It belongs to a class of medications known as short-acting beta-agonists (SABAs), which work by relaxing the muscles in the airways to help improve breathing during asthma flare-ups.
Typical Usage:
Typical dosing may involve 2 inhalations every 4 to 6 hours as needed, but always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.
Before first use—or if it hasn’t been used for over 2 weeks—prime the inhaler by spraying it into the air 3 to 4 times, away from the face.
Shake well before each use.
Breathe out fully, then place the inhaler in your mouth. Press down on the canister while inhaling slowly and deeply. Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds, then breathe out gently.
