Sucralfate is used to treat and prevent duodenal ulcers in the intestines. Duodenal refers to the first part of the small intestine that connects to the stomach. Sucralfate forms a coating over ulcers, protecting the area from further injury. This helps ulcers heal more quickly.

  • Typical treatment dosing for active duodenal ulcer is 1 gram four times daily for 4 to 8 weeks
  • Maintenance dosing for stomach ulcer is 1 gram twice daily
  • Recommended to be taken on an empty stomach with water
  • Do not take antacids within 30 minutes of administration
  • In general, separate sucralfate from other oral medications by at least 2 hours
