Ketoconazole shampoo is a prescription antifungal formulation often used to treat dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and tinea versicolor (sun fungus). It may also be recommended as part of a hair loss regimen due to its anti-inflammatory and antifungal effects, which help maintain a healthy scalp environment and reduce factors contributing to hair thinning in some individuals. While not FDA-approved for hair regrowth, ketoconazole is used off-label for this purpose in patients experiencing conditions like androgenetic alopecia or scalp folliculitis.
It works by disrupting fungal cell membranes, reducing inflammation and controlling scalp flaking, scaling, and itching. Consistent use may help reduce scalp irritation that can contribute to hair shedding.
How To Use: Apply to damp scalp and hair, lather thoroughly, leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse. May be used every 3 to 4 days as prescribed.
Precaution: Do not apply to broken or swollen skin. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider.
