Triptan medications like sumatriptan work by narrowing these blood vessels, relieving the pain associated with a migraine or cluster headache.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sumatriptan narrows the blood vessels by attaching to and activating serotonin receptors in the nerves and blood vessels within the brain.
